GULFSTREAM APPOINTS FOUR NEW DIRECTORS
SAVANNAH, Ga., Oct. 31, 2007 – Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. recently appointed four new directors, all of whom are based at the business-jet manufacturer's headquarters in Savannah.
David Hornick has joined Gulfstream as director of composite technology. In this new position, he will oversee the design, testing and manufacture of aircraft components fabricated from composite materials.
Prior to joining Gulfstream, Hornick was the engineering and technology director for GKN Aerospace in Tallasee, Ala., where he led a team of engineers in the development of composite aircraft assemblies. Hornick also spent six years with aircraft engine maker Pratt & Whitney in East Hartford, Conn. There he served as cost and weight manager for the Joint Strike Fighter, a commercial composites part family manager, a cases business center technical deputy and senior design engineer. He also holds various patents in composite design.
Hornick earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan.
Joseph F. Ireland III has been promoted to director, mechanical systems. In this new position, he will manage the design, development, certification and service support for Gulfstream aircraft flight decks, flight controls, hydraulics and other mechanical systems. Since joining Gulfstream in 1992, he has held engineering leadership roles on the GV Development Program and various special mission programs as well as in the areas of final phase manufacturing and sustaining production. Most recently, Ireland was manager of the Conformal Airborne Early Warning (CAEW) special mission aircraft program.
Prior to joining Gulfstream, Ireland served as a liaison engineer, working on the A-6 and E-2C military aircraft for Grumman Aerospace Corp. in St. Augustine, Fla. He began his aerospace career in 1987 as a structural design engineer for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach, Calif., working on the wing of the C-17 cargo plane.
Ireland earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Florida.
Cindy Jefferson has joined Gulfstream as director of initial phase procurement. In this position she will oversee the acquisition of all materials used in the initial phase of manufacturing.
Prior to joining Gulfstream, Jefferson worked for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Mich., from 1985 to 2006. She most recently served as director of purchasing information management and systems for all global Ford operations and brands, managing a 350-person team comprised of purchasing and information technology professionals. Previously, she was director of vehicle procurement operations for European operations and director of body and exterior commodity management. Also at Ford, Jefferson managed the procurement of powertrain machinery and tooling, castings and forgings as well as engine controls.
Jefferson earned both a bachelor's degree in business administration and an MBA with an emphasis in business management from Wayne State University.
Fred Karst has been promoted to director of service engineering. In this position, he will be responsible for engineering support of all in-service Gulfstream aircraft. A 24-year employee, Karst began his career as a liaison engineer in Gulfstream's Service Engineering department. In 1997, he was promoted to structures group head. Most recently, he served as service engineering manager.
Before joining Gulfstream, Karst worked for Canadair Ltd. in Montreal as a liaison engineer. He earned a bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering from Ryerson University in Toronto in 1979.
