COMMONALITY AMONG GULFSTREAM BUSINESS-JET MODELS SAVES FLEET OPERATORS TIME AND MONEY

SAVANNAH , Ga. , Jan. 10, 2007 – Business-jet operators who manage fleets that include multiple models of Gulfstream business-jet aircraft are reporting cost- and time-savings as a result of system commonalities inherent to Gulfstream aircraft designs.

"By operating a mixture of GV, G550 and G450 models, we’ve reduced our training expenses per plane by as much as 50 percent. This is largely a result of the same pilot type rating between the three planes," said Peter Fried, chairman and chief executive officer, G5 Executive AG. "Our pilots are able to spend more time out of the classroom and more time in the air with our customers."

Gulfstream’s current large-cabin offering – the G550, G500, G450 and G350 – as well as the Gulfstream V, all share the same pilot type rating. The G550, G500, G450 and G350 also feature many of the same onboard systems, including the environmental control system, waste and water systems and the PlaneView® cockpit. Gulfstream’s Enhanced Vision System (EVS), which is standard equipment on the G450 and G550 and optional equipment on the G500 and G350, is identical on all four models, as is the optional Broadband MultiLink ultra-high-speed onboard data system.

"In addition to reduced initial and recurrent pilot training expenses, operators of fleets with multiple Gulfstream aircraft appreciate reduced maintenance expenses in terms of technician training and parts inventory stores," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream.

Shared systems and components of the G550, G500, G450 and G350 translate to common procedures, training and spare parts. Approximately 80 percent of the most frequently replaced Line Replaceable Units (LRUs) are common among the four aircraft, thereby significantly reducing an operator’s required on-hand spares inventory.

G5 Executive AG, a charter operator based in Zurich , is one of 11 companies currently operating both a long-range G350 or G450 and an ultra-long-range G500 and G550. Seven of the 11 companies are large corporations that use the aircraft for executive transportation, while the remaining four are aviation management companies offering charter services or fractional ownership shares of the aircraft.

G5 Executive AG currently operates two G550s (one being the G550 fleet leader in terms of flight hours), a G450 and a GV, the latter of which G5 Executive began operating in 1998 (the GV flight-hour fleet leader, with more than 10,000 hours flown). According to Fried, at least 75 percent of his clients require aircraft that can fly intercontinental routes and of those clients, the overwhelmingly majority prefer traveling in a Gulfstream business jet.

The Gulfstream G550, G500, G450 and G350 offer customers choice in terms of price and performance. A customer who makes numerous intercontinental trips may choose the G550. With a range of 6,750 nautical miles, the G550 can fly from Tokyo to New York nonstop. In contrast, a customer who flies domestic trips primarily may choose the G350, which can fly 3,800 nautical miles or from Honolulu to Chicago nonstop.
