GULFSTREAM SUCCESSFULLY PASSES FEDERAL AVIATION ADMINISTRATION MANUFACTURING OPERATIONS AUDITS
Results Confirm Gulfstream’s Commitment to Quality and Product Safety
SAVANNAH, Ga., May 17, 2004 – Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), recently passed a two-week-long audit by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) of the company’s business aircraft manufacturing operations in Savannah, Ga.
Because Gulfstream holds an FAA Production Certificate, the company’s Savannah and Mexicali manufacturing operations, as well as its suppliers of parts and components, are subject to audits by the FAA to ensure they are in compliance with all applicable requirements of the applicable Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and the procedures established to meet those requirements. The FAA conducted its Aircraft Certification Systems Evaluation Program from April 12 through April 23. The seven-member FAA team audited the company’s design control, quality assurance, manufacturing processes and control, supplier control and internal audit organizations.
Additionally, the FAA conducted a Snap Shot II audit, which focused primarily on the processes in building individual components that make up the aircraft. In total, the FAA conducted more than 30 in-depth product, process and system audits throughout Gulfstream’s manufacturing operations.
"The overwhelming positive outcome of this audit is a direct result of Gulfstream employees’ commitment to excellence, professionalism and pride in their work," said Joe Lombardo, chief operating officer, Gulfstream. "They are the reason we performed as well as we did in this audit. They are the reason we continue to be the leading manufacturer of business-jet aircraft."
