GULFSTREAM GIV SERVES AIR CHINA AS CHARTER AIRCRAFT
Based In Beijing, The GIV Has Logged More Than 70 Hours Since Entering Service in December
SAVANNAH, Ga., Jan. 29, 2004 - Less than six weeks after entering service with Air China, the Gulfstream GIV business jet aircraft has logged more than 70 hours and traveled more than 38,000 nautical miles flying VIPs throughout China. The leased large-cabin, long-range GIV flew its first charter flight December 15 for Air China's new executive transport company, VIP Business Charter Service.
Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), first delivered the GIV to Air China representatives October 30 in Savannah, Ga. The aircraft was flown from there to Beijing where it was painted with the Air China logo. Upon completion of the new paint scheme, a crew underwent training and an in-flight inspection was performed by the Civil Aviation Administration of China.
The first business jet to be operated by Air China, this GIV also is the first large-cabin Gulfstream aircraft to be based in China.
"We understand the GIV is serving Air China extremely well," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream. "We've been made aware that the GIV's performance, cabin comfort and layout, combined with Air China's outstanding personal service, have genuinely impressed the charter customers. We appreciate Air China's decision to utilize the GIV for their new charter business and look forward to offering them additional transportation solutions in the future."
As announced in May last year, Gulfstream and China National Aviation Holding Company (CNAC), the parent company of Air China, reached agreement to lease the GIV for a minimum of one year.
The GIV is the world's best-selling, most reliable, large-cabin, long-range business aircraft. A holder of more than 70 world aviation records, the GIV can fly 4,220 nautical miles non-stop, cruise at speeds up to Mach 0.88 and reach altitudes of 45,000 feet, well above commercial traffic. Since the aircraft was brought to the market in 1985, 500 GIV-series aircraft have been manufactured and to date the fleet has completed more than two million flight hours and one million landings, with a dispatch reliability rate of over 99.7 percent.
In addition to providing air transportation for international corporations and air charter companies, governments throughout the world use the GIV to transport high-ranking officials, including presidents and heads of state, and to conduct airborne research and reconnaissance. Currently, a GIV serves as a "hurricane tracker" for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
