GULFSTREAM G550 SETS DISTANCE RECORD AND CONTINUES TO SET SPEED RECORDS AROUND THE WORLD
Ultra-long-range G550 Business Jet Establishes First Distance Record and Three New City-Pair Speed Records

SAVANNAH, Ga., Jan. 16, 2004 - Certified just four months ago, the Gulfstream G550 continues to set speed records around the world. Gulfstream's newest ultra-long-range business jet established its first official distance record of 6,554 nautical miles on a December 5 flight from Savannah, Ga., to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Also recorded as city-pair speed record, this flight shattered the previous ground distance record of 6,132 nautical miles set by a Gulfstream V in 1997.

The G550 established two additional city speed records – one on a December 11 flight from Dubai to Hong Kong and the other on a December 14 flight from Beijing to White Plains, N.Y. The National Aeronautic Association (NAA) has officially recognized the distance record and the three city-pair speed records.

“The G550 provides an outstanding ride and unforgettable experience,” said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream, who also was a passenger all three record-setting flights. “I've been flying on Gulfstream aircraft for years and know first-hand the quality and reliability inherent in each model of aircraft we have developed. The G550 has redefined what business jet customers have come to expect in their aircraft.”

The three city-pair speed records are as follows:

City-to-City Distance Time Avg Air Speed
Savannah-to-Dubai 6,554 nm 13 hours, 47 minutes 482 knots
Dubai-to-Hong Kong 3196 nm 6 hours, 6 min. 524 knots
Beijing-to- White Plains 5903 nm 13 hours, 45 min. 429 knots

Gulfstream G400/G550 chief demonstration pilot, Bill Watters; international captain Ray Wellington; and senior international captain Robert McKenney flew all three flights.

Certified by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) just five months ago, the G550 has already set numerous city-pair speed records. In October, the G550 set four city-pair speed records during a five-day, around-the-world journey, which culminated in a nonstop 14 ½-hour flight between Seoul, South Korea, and Orlando, Fla. In November, the G550 set another city-pair speed record, flying nonstop from Tokyo to West Palm Beach, Fla., in 12 hours, 32 minutes.

Introduced in October 2002, the G550 comes fully equipped and includes the state-of-the-art PlaneView flight deck, Head-Up Display and FAA-certified Gulfstream Enhanced Vision System (EVS). The flagship of the Gulfstream business jet fleet, the G550 can accommodate up to 18 passengers, fly at a maximum speed of .885 Mach and cruise at a maximum altitude of 51,000 feet. Owners of the G550 can choose from multiple cabin layouts and several customer-preferred option packages. Customers can also choose to customize the interior to best meet their individual needs, including selecting either forward or aft galleys.
