GULFSTREAM G400™ AND G300™ BUSINESS JETS RECEIVE JOINT AVIATION AUTHORITIES (JAA) VALIDATION
SAVANNAH, Ga., July 10, 2003 – Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), recently received Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA) validation of its large-cabin, long-range Gulfstream G400 and large-cabin, mid-range Gulfstream G300 business jets. This validation enables the two aircraft models to be certified and registered within the 37 European nations’ aviation authorities that comprise the JAA.
"Receipt of JAA validation to work on both Gulfstream G300s and G400s at our London Luton service and maintenance center further strengthens and enhances our first class international product support network," said Bryan Moss, president, Gulfstream. "Now our customers, whether based in Europe or visiting from anywhere in the world, can be assured of Gulfstream-quality service for their aircraft."
To receive JAA validation for aircraft that have been certified by an aviation authority of a non-JAA-member country, the JAA must verify compliance with all of its applicable airworthiness requirements. To achieve this, the JAA works closely with the certifying country’s aviation authority and the aircraft manufacturer.
"This validation is the product of outstanding cooperation between the JAA, the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and Gulfstream," said Pres Henne, senior vice president programs, engineering and test, Gulfstream. "The cooperation continues with our current effort to attain JAA validation of our two ultra-long-range aircraft – the Gulfstream G550™ and Gulfstream G500™ – which we expect to receive by the end of this year."
Introduced in September 2002, the G400 and G300 are both capable of flying nonstop from the continental United States to numerous cities in Europe. With a range of 4,100 nautical miles, the G400 can fly eight passengers nonstop from Washington, D.C. to Rome in 8 hours, 40 minutes. With a range of 3,600 nautical miles, the G300 can fly up to eight passengers from New York to Paris in under 7 hours.
