THREE GULFSTREAM DEFENSE MAINTENANCE TEAMS EARN FAA DIAMOND AWARDS
Federal Aviation Administration Awards Aviation Maintenance Technician Diamond Awards to Three Gulfstream Teams That Support Army, Navy and Air Force C-37A and C-38 Aircraft
SAVANNAH, Ga., May 22, 2003 - Gulfstream Aerospace, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), has received three new Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) Diamond Certificate of Excellence Awards, the highest of five levels of maintenance training awarded by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
These three new AMT Diamond Awards were earned by three separate Gulfstream maintenance teams based at Andrews Air Force Base (AFB), Md., and are in addition to five Diamond Awards earned earlier this year by each of Gulfstream's five service centers - located in Appleton, Wis.; Brunswick, Ga.; Dallas; Long Beach, Calif.; and Savannah.
"It's a tremendous honor to receive this type and level of recognition that traditionally has been available only to civil aircraft maintenance organizations," said Larry Flynn, president, product support, Gulfstream. "The foresight of these three teams in making the AMT Diamond Award their goal and the determination they displayed in achieving it exemplify our employees' ongoing pursuit of excellence. As a result, our military customers have the most highly skilled technicians working on their aircraft."
The AMT program originally applied only to civilian aircraft maintenance training; however, the FAA recently expanded the awards program to include civilian maintenance technicians working on military aircraft. These three new AMT Diamond Awards mark the first time Gulfstream has received FAA recognition for the training efforts of its maintenance technicians based at a military installation.
Gulfstream's three contract logistics support (CLS) teams based at Andrews AFB are each assigned to a specific military branch - the U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, and U.S. Air Force/District of Columbia Air National Guard. Each team supports its respective military branch's fleet of C-37A and C-38 executive transport jets.
Created by the FAA in 1992, the AMT certificate program recognizes eligible technicians and employers with Bronze, Silver, Gold, Ruby or Diamond Awards, depending on the number of hours of maintenance training completed.
Currently, Gulfstream employees support Gulfstream military transport aircraft at Andrews AFB, MacDill AFB and Hickam AFB in the United States; at Chievres Air Base in Belgium; and Hellenic Air Base in Greece.
Today, more Gulfstream aircraft are performing government and military service than any other large-cabin business jet aircraft in the world. More than 30 countries worldwide operate Gulfstreams, including 23 nations that use Gulfstream aircraft to transport their heads of state. Within the United States, Gulfstream aircraft serves all branches of the U.S. military and account for the majority of all large-cabin business jets delivered to the government from 1967 to the present.
