GULFSTREAM ACCEPTS DELIVERY OF 1,000th PRATT & WHITNEY ENGINE
Thousandth Engine Produced Will Power Gulfstream 200 Aircraft
Savannah, Ga., July 23, 2002 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), took delivery recently of the 1,000th PW300 series turbofan engine manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Canada during a ceremony in Longueuil, Quebec, near Montreal.
Vince Hrenak, vice president - material, Gulfstream, accepted the PW306A engine that will be installed on a super mid-size Gulfstream 200 business jet aircraft later this year. As of the end of April, 2002, there were 44 Gulfstream 200s in service with a combined total of some 17,370 flight hours.
"At Gulfstream we truly value our key partners, like Pratt & Whitney Canada, who make a significant and positive impact on our programs by delivering superior products, on time and within budget for our customers," said Hrenak.
The Gulfstream 200 pioneered the super mid-size business jet category and has quickly become an accepted addition to the long-range Gulfstream fleet, offering excellent comfort and performance. Since its introduction to the Gulfstream fleet the G200 has benefited greatly from Gulfstream's worldwide award-winning service and product support. NetJets® Inc., the largest fractional ownership company and a Berkshire Hathaway subsidiary, ordered 50 Gulfstream 200s in May last year, with options for 50 more.
Powered by two 6,000-pound thrust Pratt & Whitney engines, the Gulfstream 200 has the longest range and best-balanced overall performance in its business jet aircraft category. Capable of flying 3,620 nautical miles at speeds up to .82 Mach, the Gulfstream 200 can carry eight to ten passengers and cruises at 41,000 feet, well above commercial traffic lanes. In addition to the largest cabin volume available in its class, the Gulfstream 200 offers lower ambient noise levels, better air circulation and natural light from generous windows, making it the most comfortable and efficient super mid-size business jet aircraft.
The Gulfstream 200 joined the Gulfstream business jet fleet 14 months ago after General Dynamics purchased Galaxy Aerospace.
