GULFSTREAM IV/IV-SP COMPLETES EUROPEAN JOINT AVIATION AUTHORITIES CERTIFICATION PROCESS
Gulfstream IV/IV-SP First Aircraft to Obtain Type Certificate Validation under JAA Process
Savannah, Georgia - October 16, 2001 - Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), announced today that the Gulfstream IV/IV-SP has successfully completed the European Joint Aviation Authority (JAA) validation process. Accordingly, a Letter of Recommendation for issuance of National Type Certificates has been sent to all JAA member countries. The letter from the JAA Certification Committee advises each country to issue a national type certificate or equivalent for the Gulfstream IV/IV-SP. The JAA is responsible for the development and application of common certification requirements for all member countries as well as aircraft safety and operation procedures.
The validation process was initiated by the JAA to deal with aircraft that had been issued type certificates by member countries prior to the formation of the JAA in 1990. The Letter of Recommendation is the result of a comprehensive program that was initiated more than a year ago and included the involvement of the Federal Aviation Administration.

The 425 Gulfstream IV/IV-SP aircraft in service have accrued more than 1.5 million flight hours and more than 770,000 landings while maintaining a 99.6% reliability rate. Geneva to New York, Tokyo to Seattle and Riyadh to Johannesburg are all routine flights onboard the Gulfstream IV/IV-SP-SP."This is an important milestone for Gulfstream," said Joe Walker, Gulfstream sr. vice
