GULFSTREAM TO INSTALL FIRST COLLINS PRO LINE 21 CONTINUUM AVIONICS SYSTEM IN A CHALLENGER CL-601
Gulfstream to Receive STC to Perform the Avionics Upgrade This Year
Savannah, Ga., Oct. 19, 2001 - Gulfstream, a wholly owned subsidiary of General Dynamics (NYSE:GD), has been contracted to perform the first installation of a Collins Pro Line 21 Continuum integrated avionics suite on a Challenger CL-601 business jet.
The Collins Pro Line 21 Continuum suite provides a fully integrated system solution for in-service business jet aircraft. The most apparent change to the CL-601 flight deck is the use of four large-format 10 x 8 primary flight displays (PFDs) and multifunction displays (MFDs). The PFDs provide all primary flight instrumentation, while the MFDs display advanced navigation maps, Traffic Collision and Avoidance System (TCAS-II), weather radar and the latest terrain avoidance warning system (TAWS) information. The Pro Line 21 Continuum system also includes dual integrated flight management systems, digital flight control systems, dual digital AHRS and turbulence weather radar.
"This avionics upgrade from Rockwell Collins enables operators of early model Challengers to advance their avionics system with the capability required for present and future operating environments," said Bruce Thigpen, manager of avionics sales and new business development for aircraft services at Gulfstream.
"Gulfstream and General Dynamics Aviation Services facilities have strong capabilities in engineering, avionics and refurbishment," Thigpen said. "Our service centers are focused on customer satisfaction and we are known throughout the industry for the quality and efficiency of our work."
Gulfstream expects to receive the STC by the end of this year and to perform the upgrade at its Dallas and Appleton facilities. The STC will also be made available to General Dynamics Aviation Services to perform the upgrade at its Westfield facility.
